This Malibu estate, inspired by tropical Hawaiian boltholes, is greener than its lush landscaping.
Zero Two, which runs on 100% renewable energy and has Tesla batteries, solar panels and electric-car chargers, is the second of four environmentally conscious houses in Marisol Malibu, a small community of sustainably built luxury homes by developer Crown Pointe Estates. The first sold in 2022 for $23 million.
The grand residence, inspired by Hawaii’s Four Seasons Resort Hualalai, is the first in Southern California to voluntarily meet the requirements of the Marin County Low Carbon Concrete Code. “It’s in a beautiful location on a bluff overlooking County Line Beach, which the Beach Boys made famous in ‘Surfin’ U.S.A.,’” said Scott Morris of Crown Pointe Estates. “The architecture is Hawaiian—you can cancel your flight to Hawaii.”
Honolulu Penthouse Sells for $27.5 Million, a Record for the City. The island vibe starts at the entrance, which is an enormous lanai surrounded by specimen palm trees, a tropical stream and colorful passion fruit, hibiscus and plumeria flowers. The guest house is reached via a glass bridge that seems to float across the stream. Other Hawaiian architectural features of the house include a split-pitched roof and pocket doors throughout the interior that create a real indoor-outdoor space. The house is designed for ease of move in: It’s being sold completely decorated – the furniture is modern, and the curated paintings are by local artists. A year of complimentary maintenance also is included.
